This painting is based on Isaiah 61: 3 and also the history of Israel. It shows how today and many times in the past, the enemies of God have tried to destroy God's chosen people. God has always lifted Israel up out of destruction.
"To appoint unto them that morn in Zion, to give beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness: that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified." Isaiah 61:3
This scripture also applies to us today and tells us that we to can exchange our ashes for beauty and turn our mourning into dance. The spirit of heaviness leaves when we praise and worship God.
